Joining England Women, India are the only teams with three whitewashes in the five-match WT20Is. Before Sri Lanka, they had clean-swept the West Indies in 2019 and later against Bangladesh in 2024.

Sri Lanka were dominant in their bowling performance this time, restricting India Women’s opening batters with five wickets claimed in 11 overs. India were at 77/5 in 10.4 overs after losing openers Shafali Verma (5 off 6) and Gunalan Kamalini (12 off 12), Harleen Deol (13 off 11), Richa Ghosh (5 off 6), and Deepti Sharma (7 off 8). Smriti Mandhana’s absence left the opening line-up under pressure.

However, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur led the team through her half-century (68 off 43). Other decent contributions came from Amanjot Kaur, who added 21 runs in 18 balls, followed by Arundhati Reddy, who remained unbeaten on 27 off 11. India finished the first innings at 175/7. Sri Lanka Women’s skipper Chamari Athapaththu, Rashmika Sewwandi, and Kavisha Dilhari took two wickets each, while Nimasha Meepage added one.

Meanwhile, India Women’s bowling performance saw a team effort against the Sri Lankan batters. Opener Hasini Perera contributed massively, scoring 65 runs off 42 balls, while Imesha Dulani scored another half-century, scoring 50 runs off 39 balls.

Remaining batters, including Chamari, Nilakshika Silva, Dilhari, and Harshitha Samarawickrama, failed to finish the run chase, resulting in their loss by 15 runs with a score of 160/7. Deepti, Arundhati, Sneh Rana, Vaishnavi Sharma, Shree Charani, and Amanjot took one wicket each, while Harmanpreet secured a runout of Kaushini Nuthyangana.

India Women are entering the new season with their dominant run conquered in 2025, including the ICC ODI World Cup victory and now the T20I series. They are next headed to the T20 World Cup scheduled in June 2026.

Harmanpreet Kaur on the win

India Women’s skipper and Player of the Match Harmanpreet, in the post-match interview, heaped praise on the team’s hard work throughout the five-match WT20Is and winning the series by a clean sweep of 5-0.

She said, “2025 has been great for us. All the hard work we have done this year, we have got the credit. It’s about repeating these habits. All of us have played a lot of T20 cricket together. It was about believing we can do that. Sir spoke about strike rates and lifting the standards. Everyone was happy, and we wanted to set those standards. Going forward, we want to look at this series and think of what we can do ahead. As a batter, it’s my responsibility to give strength to that order and contribute.”

Harmanpreet revealed the added pressure the team carried in the series after coming from their recent victory at the ODI Women’s World Cup 2025 against South Africa.

“Shifting to T20 from ODI wasn’t easy but everyone was excited to play. We fought for this and happy how all things came together. Next is WPL which is important for all of us. Hopefully we play our best cricket and enjoy ourselves. Next six months are important, we want to keep working hard and raising the bar.”
