The WTA 1000 event got the American second seed an easy entry into the R16 round where she will face Janice Tjen. The Indonesian had secured her entry after defeating 2021 US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez in the round of 32 match by sets of 7-6 (7/5), 6-4.

The 24-year-old American player has made it to the quarterfinals or a level above in all of the four major tournaments in tennis. She made it to the final of the last two editions of both the Wimbledon and the US Open. Her victory over Wang Xinyu got her a guaranteed spot in the semifinals match competing against another American player and No. 6 seed Jessica Pegula.

Like Krejcikova, the WTA 1000 event had seen many other withdrawals including that of Canada’s Victoria Mboko. The Indonesian and Canadian join the list of other withdrawn players including world top two seeds Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek as the seventh and eighth players.

Elsewhere, British player Emma Raducanu lost her campaign in the first round to world number 67 Antonia Ruzic by 6-1, 5-7, 6-2. Meanwhile, emerging star Iva Jovic made her entry into the second round after securing a 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 victory over her opponent Kamilla Rakhimova. However, Sara Bejlek continued her promising run after beating Zeynep Sonmez in straight sets. She will next face ninth seed Belinda Bencic in the second-round match who had won over Jessica Bouzas Maneiro after defeating her by sets of 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.

The round of 32 match of the women’s singles schedule on Tuesday, February 17, will see defending champion Mirra Andreeva going against Daria Kasatkina. On the other top seed Elena Rybakina will play against Kimberly Birrell.
