Green with scores of 65, 67, 67, 69 was forced to quickly finish off. Green’s main challenger was Germany’s Alexandra Forsterling who could only climb to two strokes, whereas Green went ahead to complete the victory.

Earlier South African Casandra Alexander had dropped three shots on the first two holes when playing in the last group with Green but went on to tie for a second with Forsterling.

Green won her first title at the Sanctuary Cove triumph followed by the victory at Singapore’s Women’s World Championship which was her seventh LPGA title. With her latest win, she became the first Australian golfer to complete a hat-trick in major-tour events.

Hannah Green on her victory

Talking about her victory at the Australian event, Green said, “It feels really amazing, it hasn’t really sunk in and [it has] been a crazy month, four weeks since I won Singapore. But very special to do that in Australia. I didn’t know how I was going to perform. When I have won … I’ve usually flown under the radar, and it’s hard to back up a win, especially the Aussie Open. It’s such a big week.”

Day 2 saw Green starting the match with two strokes clear and held a six-shot buffer for a brief moment after four holes. But she suffered several bogeys that reduced her advantage to two. Later, she earned a birdie at the ninth that got her a good place in the match but Alexandra’s birdie at the end resulted in a three-shot buffer and Green remained with two holes.
