Celtics midfielder Maria McAneny stunned everyone with her impressive goal scored during the ongoing Scottish Women’s Premier League 2025. In the game against Hibernian Women, she scored a goal just 4.10 seconds after the kick-off which she attempted from the line screamer. Her goal is now officially the fastest ever scored in Women’s Football history.

Going into the match, Maria kicked the ball from the centre circle, which went quite high and past other players including Hibernian’s goalkeeper and went straight to the back of the net. With just a second into the game, the Celtics got the lead by 1-0. She along with her teammates celebrated the feat in that moment while jumping and screaming with joy.

Talking about her impressive record made in December 2025 during the post-game interview she expressed her excitement while calling it an unexpected moment of her career.

She said, “There was no practice or anything like that, it was just a spur-of-the-moment thing. There was a Plan B, but I said to Saoirse [Noonan], I’m going to go for it and thankfully it went in. It’s a great feeling, and it’s definitely not an achievement I ever thought I’d have. It hasn’t really set in, to be fair.”

The Celtics went on to win the match against Hibernian Women by a score of 2-1.

Crediting her impressive feat, Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday visited the Celtics ‘ training ground in Barrowfield. He came to present Maria with her official certificate from the Guinness World Records.

Talking about his experience in Barrowfield, Glenday credMaria’s notable table and called her a local hero who is beginning to set her mark on the national stage. With this record,d she has now captured global and worldwide attention on herself.

Glenday said, “It was a genuine honour to visit Celtic’s new training ground to meet Maria and the team. Making a big noise about a record as fundamental as the fastest goal in top-flight women’s football sends a signal to every young female player that the opportunities are there to make your mark.”

Glenday further emphasized on women’s sport receives the same popularity as that of men’s. Maria’s achievement is a step towards it but the work is still left to be done in its encouragement as growth in the world.

Women’s game must be given the same attention as the men’s, so I’m pleased that we were able to celebrate Maria’s inspiring achievement. Maria has been football-focussed from childhood, and has worked her way up through Celtic’s academy to the first team, and now the national side,” he mentioned.
