On Thursday, April 2, the eight-time winners Lyon defeated Wolfsburg in extra time to advance to the UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-finals. The French Club defeated them by 4-1. With that Lyon has set up their final-four clash with defending champions Arsenal. The team had booked their slot after defeating Chelsea by 3-2 on Wednesday, April 1.

The Wolfburg started their campaign with a 1-0 lead. The lone goal was scored by their striker Lineth Beerensteyn in Germany. But Lyon dominated through their midfielder Lily Yohannes who got the first score in the 16th minute of the game. She deflected the strike from the bottom-left corner.
The French side had earlier defeated Wolfsburg by 3-1 in the league phase, but the two-time Champions League winners held through the pressure.
In the 78th minute, Lyon goalkeeper Christiane Endler denied Janou Levels, who had Wolfsburg’s best chance from close range. Meanwhile, Wolfsburg goalkeeper, Stina Johannes, was also solidly faced with a Melchie Dumornay attempt on goal after 93 minutes to send the match into extra time.
Lyon then took control through its substitutes. After 102 minutes Dumornay attempted from close range and Damaris Egurrola used her head to send it towards Selma Bacha’s corner five minutes later. The fourth Tabitha Chawinga added the fourth after 119 minutes.
