The seven-time Grand Slam champion lost to the 20-year-old Spanish wild card by sets of 6-2, 6-4 in an hour and 45 minutes match. The loss has got World No. 479 Williams under seven defeats this season. This was her first clay court game since playing the Roland Garros in 2021.

Both the games were a close contest but between the two the Spaniard was the most consistent. Ranked World No. 140, Quevedo played her first 1000-level event in the tournament. The first set saw many unforced errors resulting from the wind blow at the Estadio Manolo Santana.

Meanwhile, in the second set, Williams got to a better start while taking a 3-0 lead. But Quevedo fought back but the game was midway interrupted by rain resulting in the roof of the centre court getting closed. Despite the stoppage, Quevedo went on to win five consecutive games and secure her spot in the second round.

Elsewhere, in another round-of-128 stage game, former World No. 2 Paula Badosa of Spain lost her game to Julia Grabher by sets of 7-6 (7/3), 4-6, 6-0. Meanwhile, 2023 Roland Garros semi-finalist Beatriz Haddad Maia lost by sets of 6-1, 6-1 to Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. On the other hand, 2025 Roland Garros sensation Lois Boisson will take on Peyton Stearns to qualify in the second round, where she will face defending champion Aryna Sabalenka.
