Chasing a formidable 193, South Africa made the target look far less daunting than it appeared on paper. Wolvaardt’s breathtaking 115 set the tone for a near-flawless pursuit, as the hosts cruised to victory with nine wickets in hand and 21 balls to spare. The win not only sealed the five-match series with two games remaining but also marked South Africa’s highest successful chase in T20 internationals.

The foundation of the chase was a commanding 183-run opening partnership between Wolvaardt and Sune Luus. While Wolvaardt took on the role of aggressor with her rapid stroke play, Luus provided stability with a composed 64 off 42 deliveries. Their understanding and control ensured India were kept out of the contest for most of the innings, reinforcing their credentials as a formidable opening pair heading into the T20 World Cup.

Earlier, India had posted their strongest total of the series, finishing on 192 for 4. The innings was built on a solid platform laid by Shafali Verma, who overcame an initially cautious start to produce a fluent 64. Her innings helped India avoid early setbacks, something that had troubled them in previous matches. The opening stand remained intact through the powerplay, offering hope of a competitive total.

However, the introduction of spin shifted momentum briefly. Nonkululekho Mlaba struck twice in quick succession, removing Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues in the same over. That double blow left India at 68 for 2 and momentarily disrupted their rhythm.

Harmanpreet Kaur then stepped in to steady the innings and accelerate when required. The Indian captain produced a well-paced 66 off 38 balls, blending control with aggression. After building a crucial partnership with Shafali, she continued to push the scoring rate even after the opener’s dismissal. Her late flourish, including powerful hits in the final overs, ensured India finished strongly. A valuable cameo from Richa Ghosh further boosted the total, with their partnership adding important runs at the death.

Despite India’s strong batting effort, Wolvaardt’s brilliance ultimately overshadowed it. She attacked from the outset, taking on the Indian bowlers with confidence and precision. Her fifty came at remarkable speed, and she maintained that intensity throughout the innings. Dominant on the leg side, she accumulated the majority of her runs in that region, showcasing both power and placement.

Wolvaardt also benefited from a couple of missed chances in the field, being dropped twice. She made India pay heavily for those errors, converting her opportunities into a match-defining century. Her innings was eventually cut short near the finish line, but by then, the result was all but decided.

The victory capped off a perfect home season for South Africa, who had already secured series wins against Ireland and Pakistan. Their consistency and confidence appear to be peaking at the right time as they prepare for the T20 World Cup.

For India, while the batting showed improvement, concerns remain. Injuries continue to be an issue, with Arundhati Reddy leaving the field mid-innings due to discomfort. With key players already sidelined, managing fitness will be crucial in the lead-up to major tournaments.

South Africa, meanwhile, will take immense confidence from this performance, led by a captain who is clearly in exceptional form and capable of redefining matches single-handedly.
