Wimbledon has increased its prize money, setting a new record for the event. Starting this year, the prize money has been raised by 20% compared to 2025.

Several players, including Coco Gauff, women’s and men’s World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka, and Jannik Sinner, have voiced their concerns about a larger share of the Grand Slam revenue.

All England Club Chair, Deborah Jevans, announced the prize increase. At a press conference, she stated, “I would hope the players would welcome it. It’s a significant amount of money. We’ve looked at every round, including qualifying. My hope is that the players do recognise what a significant increase this is.”

For comparison, in 2025, the men’s and women’s singles champions took home £3 million, while in 2026, the winners received £3.6 million ($4.8 million). The first-round prize money has also been boosted to £80,000, an increase of 21% since 2024.

Similarly, the total prize fund, including players’ per diems, will rise to £64.2 million ($85.8 million), up from £53.5 million in 2025. This marks the biggest annual increase in the tournament’s history.

At the 2026 French Open, Roland Garros, top-10 players limited media interactions to 15 minutes as a protest. Aryna Sabalenka has also suggested that players should boycott if their demands are not met. The issue has been escalating for over a year, as far back as 2025. The sport’s biggest players had signed a letter to the heads of the four Grand Slams. The objective was to request that prize money increase, and to have longer opinion voice decisions.

Wimbledon’s increase in prize money is a response to the concerns. However, discussions about player representation and revenue sharing are expected to continue across the sport’s major events.
