The two-time Olympic medalist needed just 35 minutes to register a dominant win of 21-16, 21-14 over the world No. 5.

At first, Sindhu had a slow start, but midway through the opening game, she found her rhythm and dictated the rallies to eventually win the match. In the second set, she completely dominated the game, racing to an 8-0 advantage.

The 31-year-old will next face Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara, who received a walkover after top seed An Se-Young of South Korea withdrew from their second-round match.

Sindhu is India’s lone hope in the tournament, with the mixed doubles pair of Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila losing in the pre-quarterfinals.

Tanisha and Dhruv fought hard; unfortunately, they lost 20-22, 17-21 to Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping of China in their round of 16 match in 47 minutes.
