India bagged two gold medals in the girls’ singles event at the Asia U17 & U15 Junior Championships 2025 held in Chengdu, the People’s Republic of China. Shaina Manimuthu and Diksha Sudhakar were the two Indian stars winning in their respective age groups on the Sunday match of October 26, 2025.

First in the Girls’ U-15 singles semi-finals game, Shaina defeated Japan’s Yubuki Azumaya by 21-14, 21-16 to enter into the finals. There she defeated Japan’s Chiharu Tomita by 21-14, 22-20 to bag the title. With the win, she also became the fourth Indian girls’ singles player to win the U15 title.
Meanwhile, in the U17 girls’ singles final, Diksha defeated Lakshya Rajesh by 21-16, 21-9 and took the gold medal. She is now the first Indian to become the U-17 singles champion at the Junior Asian Championships. Earlier, she first defeated Indonesia’s Raisya Affatunisa by a confident win of 21-17, 21-8.
Losing his chance at the title, Lakshya eventually had to settle for a silver medal for India. In the U-17 girls’ singles quarter-finals, he defeated Thailand’s Lalita Sattayathadakoon by 11-21, 21-16, 21-19. His defeat against Diksha cost him the finals game.
A day before that, on Saturday, India had already took home two bronze medals wins in singles and mixed doubles events after losing both the semi-finals match. In boys’ singles, Jagsher Singh Khanggura lost his match against China’s Hong Tian Yue by 21-11, 21-16. Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles, the duo of Jangjeet and Jananika Ramesh lost to the Chinese Taipei duo of I An Chang and Yo Han Wang of Chinese Taipei by 17-21, 21-18, 21-16.
After Sunday’s win, India is currently in the tally with two gold, one silver, and two bronze medals, their best-ever in a single edition of the Badminton Asia U17 & U15 Championships.
India last won two gold medals in the U-15 and the U-17 division during the 2013 edition. In the U15 boys’ singles title, it was Siril Verma, while Chirag Shetty and MR Arjun won the U17 boys’ doubles. Followed by this, Samiya Farooqui, Tasnim Mir, and Tanvi Patri were the U15 champions in 2017, 2019, and 2024 editions, respectively.
