Following India Women’s team’s historic victory in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 on Sunday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash reward of Rs. 51 crore. The prize will be distributed across the players, coaches, and the support staff, marking a significant step in women’s sport in India.

Speaking to ANI, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, referred to India Women’s victory as a landmark moment in Indian cricket while referring to the example of Kapil Dev, who paved the way and led the men’s team to the 1983 World Cup glory. The same happened on the women’s side, with captain Harmanpreet Kaur leading the team this time in 2025.
“In 1983, Kapil Dev brought about a new era and encouragement in cricket by making India win the World Cup. The same excitement and encouragement have been introduced by women today. Harmanpreet Kaur and her team have not just won the trophy today; they have won the hearts of all Indians,” Saikia said.
In addition to that, Saikia credited ICC Chairman Jay Shah, also a former BCCI secretary, for his increased efforts towards fostering gender equality in the sport.
“Since Jay Shah took charge of the BCCI, he has brought about many transformations in women’s cricket. Pay parity was addressed. Last month, ICC Chairman Jay Shah increased women’s prize money by 300 percent — from $2.88 million to $14 million. These steps have greatly promoted women’s cricket. BCCI has also announced a reward prize of Rs 51 crores for the entire team- players, coaches, and support staff,” he mentioned.
