The competition, scheduled from October 13 to 18 at SJF Bank Arena, features a prize pool of US$950,000 and brings together some of the world’s leading badminton players. For India, the tournament presents an opportunity to regain momentum after the Asian Games and build confidence ahead of the next phase of the international season.

Sindhu opens her campaign against world No. 50 Yvonne Li, holding a favourable head-to-head record of three wins from three meetings. The Indian star will aim to use her experience and attacking game to progress beyond the opening round and establish herself as a contender in the draw. Tanvi Sharma, the Taipei Open champion in August, begins against Japan’s Natsuki Nidaira. Ashmita Chaliha, who won the Korea Masters in August, faces Bulgaria’s Kaloyana Nalbantova, while Devika Sihag has a challenging assignment against eighth seed Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand.

Unnati Hooda, who impressed at the Asian Games by reaching the quarter-finals and taking Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi to three games, will meet China’s Han Qian Xi. The depth of India’s women’s singles contingent provides several opportunities for promising results, although navigating the opening rounds will be crucial.

Lakshya Sen faces one of India’s most difficult opening-round assignments against third seed Chou Tien Chen. The Indian shuttler will need to be sharp in defence and clinical in attack against an experienced opponent capable of controlling rallies. Sen reached the quarter-finals at the 2025 Denmark Open, defeating home favourite Anders Antonsen along the way. That performance offers encouragement as he returns to Odense, but the opening-round draw leaves little room for a slow start.

Ayush Shetty will face Indonesia’s Alwi Farhan, who defeated him in the pre-quarterfinals of the World Championships earlier this year. Kidambi Srikanth, the 2017 Denmark Open champion, begins against France’s Arnaud Merkle and will hope to draw on his experience at the tournament. India’s men’s doubles hopes rest heavily on fifth seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who open against China’s He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu. The Indian pair will be keen to respond after an early exit at the Asian Games.

Their recent successes, including the Singapore Open Super 750 title in May and the China Masters crown last month, demonstrate their ability to challenge the world’s best. Satwik and Chirag reached the semi-finals in Odense last year and will aim to improve on that performance.

In women’s doubles, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, World Championships bronze medallists in August, face Chinese Taipei’s Yan Fei Chen and Hsieh Pei Shan. Rutaparna and Swetaparna Panda have a difficult opening match against sixth seeds Bao Li Jing and Cao Zi Han of China.

The first-round matches will be played on October 13 and 14, followed by the second round on October 15. The quarter-finals are scheduled for October 16, the semi-finals on October 17 and the finals on October 18. Indian viewers can watch the Denmark Open 2026 live on the FanCode app and website. Fans can also follow live scores, draws and match updates through the Badminton World Federation’s official match centre.

For India, the Denmark Open is more than another stop on the international badminton calendar. It is a chance for established stars to demonstrate consistency while younger players test themselves against elite opposition. Sindhu’s experience, Sen’s ability to challenge top-ranked opponents and the attacking quality of Satwik-Chirag offer India several routes to a successful campaign. However, the demanding draws mean that early-round discipline and match management will be just as important as reputation.

With a mix of experienced campaigners and emerging talent, India’s performance in Odense could provide a useful indication of its competitive depth heading into the remaining international tournaments of 2026.
