PV Sindhu Storms Into Malaysia Open 2026 Quarterfinals With Straight-Games Win

Two-time Olympic medalist and former tennis World champion P V Sindhu has secured her spot in the Malaysia Open 2026 quarterfinals after defeating Japan’s Tomoka Miyazaki in the BWF Super 1000 tournament. The Indian shutters won over the eighth-seeded by sets of 21-8, 21-13. In the Head-to-Head record with Miyazaki, Sindhu now leads 2-1 after adding her recent win.

In the opening game, Sindhu dominated from the start, securing a 5-1 lead, followed by leading the momentum by adding 13 points to the score of 18-4 and ended the game with a comfortable win by 21-8. Meanwhile, the second game was also a one-sided result with Sindhu making use of her experience against the 19-year-old Miyazaki. At the start, the score ended in a tight angle at 8-9. However, Sindhu managed to add a six-point lead and led the score to 17-11. Adding four more points, Sindhu wrapped up the second game with ease and finished the score at 21-13.

As she advanced into the quarterfinals, Sindhu will face the pre-quarterfinals game winner, for which the results are yet to be out between China’s Gao Fang Jie and third-seeded Japanese Akane Yamaguchi.

Malaysia Open 2026 Men’s event results

The pre-quarterfinals ended in disappointment for Indian men’s shuttlers Lakshya Sen and Ayush Shetty. Both of them bid goodbye to their campaign in the Malaysia Open 2026 after losing their respective pre-quarterfinal matches.

Sen suffered a first-round exit after losing against Hong Kong-China’s Lee Cheuk Yiu 20-22, 15-21 in a 53-minute match. He earlier defeated Singapore’s Jia Heng Jason Teh. Meanwhile, Ayush suffered a massive defeat over top seed Shi Yu Qi of China by sets of 18-21, 21-18, 12-12 in a 70-minute intense battle.

On the other hand, in the men’s doubles event, the third-seeded duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have also advanced to the quarterfinals of the Malaysia Open 2026. The Indian pair of Satwik-Chirag secured a 21-18, 21-11 win against the Malaysian duo of Junaidi Arif and Roy King Yap in a 39-minute battle.

With the win, the Indian pair now leads the head-to-head record against the Malaysian duo by 4-0. Their next opponent, however, remains to be out with the winner yet to be decided. The winner will be decided between Chinese Taipei’s Chen Zhi Ray/Lin Yu Chieh and the sixth seeds Fajar Alfian/Fikri Muhammad of Indonesia.
