Gujarat Giants made a decent start to their first innings after losing the toss to Mumbai Indians. Opener Beth Mooney scored 33 runs off 26 balls, followed by Kanika Ahuja, who added 35 runs in 18 balls. Meanwhile, skipper Ashleigh Gardner only got 20 runs from her side. Sophie Devine, who was the second opener, got out in eight runs, while Ayushi Soni retired hurt during the match.

But a valuable partnership between Georgia Wareham and Bharti Fulmali in the end gave the Giants a strong finish. Both the batters remained unbeaten, with Wareham scoring 43* runs and Fulmali adding 36* runs, creating a 79-run partnership. Shabnim Ismail, Hayley Matthews, Nicola Carey, and Amelia Kerr got one wicket each for Mumbai Indians.

When it came to Mumbai Indians, the run chase started in disappointment after losing their openers Gunalan Kamalini (13 off 12) and Hayley Matthews (22 off 12) in five overs. However, coming in next, Amanjot Kaur (40 off 26), skipper Harmanpreet (71* off 43) and Nicola Carey (38* off 23) got the momentum and completed the target score of 193 in 19.2 overs. Renuka Singh, Kashvee Gautam, and Devine picked one wicket each for Gujarat Giants.

Harmanpreet on Mumbai Indians’ win

Player of the Match Harmanpreet was pleased by Mumbai’s performance and credited the hard work for securing the victory.

She said, “It was a good game. While bowling, we gave too many runs away. Batting wise, we were good, calculated really well. In a tournament like this, everyday you have to try and score 200 batting first or chase these many. You know you have to go and bat for your team. We have to calculate and keep batting accordingly. When you have that much clarity, you can just execute.”

“For me, every match is important. I didn’t know this stat. Important for me to go in every day and bat for my team. Good to see all these girls taking responsibility and doing their bit for the team,” she added.
