On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, Indian women’s ace shuttler PV Sindhu made a strong start to her Indonesia Masters 2026 campaign held at Istora Senayan. In the women’s singles match of the Round of 32, Sindhu defeated Manami Suizu in straight sets by 22-20, 21-18. In addition to that, another Indian women’s shuttler secured a promising win. Anmol Kharb won her match after defeating Taiwan’s Pai Yu-po by 21-16, 21-17. However, Aakarshi Kashyap suffered a first-round exit. She lost to Denmark’s Julie Jakobsen by sets of 21-8, 20-22, 17-21.

Meanwhile, in the men’s singles category, Lakshya Sen secured a promising win in the R32 match. The Indian men’s ace shuttler defeated Taiwan’s Wang Tzu-wei by sets of 21-13, 16-21, 21-14. Another promising win came from Kidambi Srikanth, who managed to pull off quite a fight in his opening round match against a high-ranked Japanese opponent.

He secured a hard-fought victory over Koki Watanabe after contesting a 72-minute match and won by sets of 21-15, 21-13, 24-22. In another men’s singles match, India’s Kiran George and HS Prannoy lost their respective matches; Kiran was defeated by Indonesia’s Moh. Zaki Ubaidullah in two sets of 17-21, 14-21, while Prannoy suffered two straight set losses against Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia.

The results of Tanvi Sharma and Malvika Bansod in the women’s singles and Ayush Shetty in the men’s section are yet to be out as their respective matches in the Round of 32 are scheduled in the latter half.

While acing the singles event, India had a disappointing campaign in the opening round of the mixed doubles event. The Indian pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto faced a first-round exit in three sets of 23-21, 20-22, 6-21, by the French duo of Julien Majo and Lea Palermo. Both pairs have met for the second time, having previously met in the Malaysia Masters 2025, which was won by the Indians.

Earlier, another Indian mixed doubles pair of Rohan Kapoor and Ruthivika Gadde suffered defeat over the fourth-seeded duo of Delphine Delrue and Thom Gicquel of France by sets of 9-21, 20-22. With both losses, India’s campaign in the mixed doubles came to an end.

India only has active participation in the women’s and men’s singles events of the Indonesia Masters 2026.
