On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Indian women shuttlers made a strong start to their first campaign in the Indonesia Masters held at the Istora Senayan. Players Anmol Kharb and Aakarshi Kashyap, after winning their respective matches, have advanced in the first-round of the women’s singles main draw match tomorrow. They will also be joined by PV Sindhu, Malvika Bansod, and Tanvi Sharma.

The opening day saw some powerful performances by the two women shuttlers. Anmol defeated Canada’s Wen Yu Zhang in a 60-minute match by sets of 21-18, 20-22, 21-19. Meanwhile, Aakarshi dominated her match against her counterpart Isharani Baruah, defeating her by sets of 21-13, 21-17. Anmol and Aakarshi will next face Pai Yu Po & Julie Dawall Jakobsen, respectively, in the Round of 32 match.
Meanwhile, Tasnim Mir and the women’s doubles pair of Rashmi Ganesh and Sania Sikkandar have been knocked out of the qualification round. Tasnim lost her women’s singles match of the qualifying round to Denmark’s Amalia Schulz by sets of 12-21, 16-21. On the other hand, in the women’s doubles main draw, the Indian pair of Rashmi and Sania lost to the Chinese duo of Keng Shu Liang and Li Hua Zhou by 21-23, 10-21 in a 34-minute match.
The Indian shuttlers will be involved in an intense badminton action at the Indonesia Masters Super 500, which is scheduled from January 20 to 25 in Jakarta. Keeping aside some setbacks suffered in the home event last week, which was the India Open, this tournament will be a crucial one, featuring some of the top-class players in competition. The Indian team will be led by two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu in the women’s singles and Lakshya Sen in the men’s category. Also included in the singles category are the experienced names, including Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy.
Meanwhile, the women’s doubles event will be headed by the Indian top pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty in the men’s category, while the duo of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who were said to lead the women’s event, have, however, withdrawn from the tournament this time.
