A landmark moment unfolded in Vadodara as Mumbai Indians’ all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt etched her name into the Women’s Premier League (WPL) record books, becoming the first player to score a century in the tournament’s history. The England star produced a masterclass in controlled aggression, remaining unbeaten on 100 off 57 deliveries against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Sciver-Brunt dominated the RCB bowling attack from the outset, striking the ball cleanly and consistently as she peppered the boundary ropes with 16 fours and cleared the fence once. Her innings was the centrepiece of Mumbai’s commanding first-innings total of 199.

The foundation for the big score was laid by opener Hayley Matthews, who returned in style after an injury break. Matthews looked fluent and confident, compiling a brisk 56 off 39 balls before partnering Sciver-Brunt in a match-defining stand. Together, the duo added 131 runs, leaving the RCB bowlers searching for answers as pressure mounted with every over.

RCB struggled to contain the scoring, with several bowlers conceding heavily as Mumbai maintained a strong run rate throughout the innings. The Sciver-Brunt–Matthews partnership now stands among Mumbai Indians’ most prolific in WPL history, further underlining their impact as a batting pair.

Speaking after the match, Sciver-Brunt admitted she was mindful of the nervous nineties but remained focused on maximising the team’s total. “I wanted to make sure I got past that mark and, more importantly, put up as many runs as possible for the team,” she said, expressing delight at reaching her first T20 hundred.

She also praised Matthews’ return to form, calling it a boost for the side and adding that she enjoys batting alongside her whenever the opportunity arises. For Sciver-Brunt, the knock marked a personal milestone and a historic first for the league, one that could redefine batting benchmarks in the WPL.
