On Sunday, March 22, India’s badminton star Unnati Hooda won the USD 20,000 Polish Open title. Hooda defeated Ukraine’s Polina Buhrova in the women’s singles title held in Poland. The World No. 28 defeated the second seed by sets of 10-21, 21-15, 21-8 in 47 minutes. The win got Hooda her second BWF International Challenge title.

In the first set, Hooda went down by 10-21 but striking back harder she went on to win the next two games and secure the Polish Open 2026 women’s singles title. The 14-year-old is the youngest Indian badminton player to win a Super 100 BWF World Tour title after winning the Odisha Open 2022.

The badminton rising star hails from Rohtak and was accompanied by her father Upkar Hooda in the Poland event. She believes her victory marks significance resulting after returning from an injury. “This victory is important and marks a strong comeback for her,” she mentioned.

Unnati’s rise on the badminton platform has been steady which is credited to her consistent performances. She is emerging as India’s upcoming and promising young shuttler.

Her impressive performances has been witnessed through her career achievements that includes a medal victory at the Asian Junior Championship. She is also among the youngest Indians to win a BWF Super 100 title at the Odisha Open. In addition to that she has recorded multiple national titles including three BWF World Tour Super 100 titles.

The victory in Poland was a much-needed comeback from the youngster who faced a disappointing campaign at the Swiss Open.

Hood had lost the Round of 32 in straight games to Chiu Pin-Chian by sets of 21-14, 21-14. The defeat resulted in a strong fightback from the young Indian shuttler.
