Treesa Jolly – Gayatri Gopichand Rally to Quarter-Finals at Syed Modi International 2025

India’s top seeded badminton players Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand were in participation achieving a hard-fought victory at the 2025 Syed Modi International on November 25 held at the Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium. The opening day saw some strong performances by the Indians.

The women’s doubles pair of Jolly and Gopichand made a slow start but they defeated Malaysia’s pair of Cheng Su Hui and Tan Zhing Yi by sets of 19-21, 22-20, 21-9. They were dominant in their defence and powered through a dominant decider to qualify in the quater-finals.

Earlier in the day, India’s Juniors squad carried their confident form in the senior stage with confident performances in the qualifiers match.

Meanwhile the mixed doubles pair of C Lalramsanga and Taarini Suri took a comfortable win against the Israel–Hungary duo of Misha Zilberman and Agnes Korosi, while Bhavya Chhabra and Vishakha Toppo by 21-13, 21-15. Their dominance followed with them winning their match against fellow Indians Devvert Mann and Nishu Malik by 21-19, 21-15.

On the other hand, in the men’s doubles draw, India’s second seeded Sai Pratheek K and P Krishnamurthy Roy went past Swarnraj Bora and Nibir Ranjan by 21-8, 21-17. Fifth seeds Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun got three consecutive wins in Al Ain, Turkey and Telangana followed by beating the pair of Ayush Makhija and Sujey Tamboli by 21-11, 21-13. The victory led them to round-of-16.

In women’s doubles, Priya Konjengbam and Shuti Mishra advanced after winning against Reena Evangelin and Samriddhi Singh by sets of 21-8, 21-11.

The Syed Modi India International Super 300 event kicked off in Lucknow on Tuesday. The tournament saw elite shuttlers and rising Indian stars including Olympians competing for a cash prize worth USD 240,000 announced by the Uttar Pradesh Badminton Association. The competitions will compete in five categories. India have the largest number of contingents including 152 players.

The participation includes names like former champions Kidambi Srikanth and Tokyo Olympian HS Prannoy. In the women’s section its Unnati Hooda, Aakarshi Kashyap, Tasnim Mir, Anmol Kharb, Tanvi Sharma, Ashmita Chaliha, Anupama Upadhyaya.
