India Women’s Hockey Start World Cup Prep Under Sjoerd Marijne With 31-Player Camp

India’s Women’s Hockey Team have begun their preparations for the upcoming international tournaments of the season. A 31-member squad named by Hockey India will be part of the Senior Women’s National Coaching Camp which will be held from April 1 to 9, 2026.

The Indian team are coming off a strong campaign at the recently concluded FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 Qualifiers held in Hyderabad, Telangana. The team had earned a silver medal and had qualified for the upcoming 2026 FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Throughout the camp, the team can benefit from improving their fitness levels, and tactical skills for the game. The team will be working under new coach Sjoerd Marijne.

The camp will serve as a crucial preparation for the Indian team who have their upcoming FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup 2026 in June. The event follows with the Hockey Women’s World Cup and the 2026 Asian Games which are scheduled from September 19 to October 4 in Japan.

India’s squad features several awardees from the Hockey India 8th Annual Awards 2025. The list includes goalkeeper Bichu Devi Kharibam who was given the Hockey India Baljit Singh Award for Goalkeeper of the Year. Midfielder Sakshi Rana who was awarded the Hockey India Asunta Lakra Award for Upcoming Player of the Year is also included. Another major addition to the squad is the women’s Player of the Year winner Navneet Kaur. She was presented with the Hockey India Balbir Singh Sr. Award at the ceremony.

Head coach Marijne has expressed his excitement about joining the team for the national camp. He also talked about the preparations the team requires for the event.

“Our focus will be on improving consistency, refining our structures, and ensuring that we are physically and mentally ready for the challenges ahead. We want to build a squad that can perform under pressure and deliver in key moments during major tournaments like the upcoming FIH Hockey World Cup and Asian Games,” Marijne said.
