Emma Raducanu Withdraws from Linz Open 2026 Due to Ongoing Viral Illness

British tennis player Emma Raducanu thinks things are not going well. She has been out of tournaments since the 2026 Miami Open. Her clay-court season has been prolonged and denied as she is currently recovering from a viral illness. The British No. 1 was expected to play the Linz Open in Austria next week but sources reveal that she has withdrawn from the WTA 500 event.

Raducanu’s withdrawal from Linz comes into effect after her fellow compatriot Briton Jack Draper decided to pull out of the Monte Carlo Masters. He has remained cautious after his comeback from an arm injury. Meanwhile, two-time Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova, Emma Navarro and Antonia Ruzic have also withdrawn from the Linz tournament.

Raducanu had to end her 2025 season due to multiple injuries including a minor foot issue in 2026. In February she contracted a viral illness in Cluj-Napoca and is still left with the after-effects.

The 23-year-old is keeping her recovery as a priority and will return back in shape before making her return to competitive games. The World No. 28 showed ill-health symptoms during February’s Middle East hard-court swing. She participated in the Indian Wells but skipped the Miami Open.

Raducanu’s career is currently being overshadowed by injury and physical issues. The Grand Slam winner was making strides last year. This year she has performed rather slowly due to injury issues. For her, the three months of this season have been a mixed one with some progress, a coach change along with the effects caused by her health.

This season, Raducanu has played across six tournaments and won seven of her matches including four in the Transylvania Open finals. She is, however, to make her return for the Madrid Open, which is the first WTA 1000 event of the European clay-court season.

Tim Henman has advice for Emma Raducanu

Former six-time Grand Slam semi-finalist Tim Henman says Raducanu has to emphasise more on her physical resilience and minimise herself from injuries that could affect her career. He shared his insights during an interview with Sky Sports.

He said, “She’s never going to be as big a ball striker as Anisimova and the physicality that she brings to the court is obviously intimidating, as these top players are. But that’s where I think Raducanu needs to be physically stronger. She needs more physical resilience so she doesn’t get the little injuries that put her away from the court. They stop her from building the momentum on the match court.”

This season, Raducanu has appeared in a total of seven events and has a 7-7 record.
