India’s women’s hockey team delivered a statement of resilience on their tour of South America, staging a strong comeback to level a four match series 2–2 against Argentina women’s national field hockey team, one of the most formidable sides in world hockey.
The tour began on a challenging note for India women’s national field hockey team, as they faced the intensity and structure of an Argentine side ranked among the world’s best. In the opening match on April 13, India showed early promise with goals from Navneet Kaur and Annu, but Argentina’s clinical finishing turned the tide. Goals from Maria Emilia Larsen, Victoria Granatto, and a brace by Julieta Jankunas powered the hosts to a 4–2 win.
The second encounter followed a similar script. India took the lead through Ishika, displaying attacking intent, but Argentina once again capitalised on key moments. Drag flick specialist Agustina Gorzelany scored twice to seal a narrow 2–1 victory, giving the hosts a commanding 2-0 lead in the series.
Facing the prospect of a series defeat, India responded with renewed discipline and tactical clarity in the third match on April 16. The turning point came through penalty corners, an area India has been working to strengthen in recent years.
