A dramatic shootout showdown crowned SG Pipers as champions of the Women’s Hero Hockey India League (HIL) 2025-26 after they edged past Shrachi Bengal Tigers 3-2 following a 1-1 stalemate in regulation time at Ranchi on Friday. In a final marked by intensity, tactical battles and moments of individual brilliance, the Pipers kept their composure when it mattered most to secure the coveted title.

The Bengal Tigers made a purposeful start and were rewarded in the 16th minute when Lalremsiami broke the deadlock, finishing calmly inside the circle after a precise assist from Sushila Chanu. The Tigers continued to press for a second goal, earning multiple penalty corners before halftime, but SG Pipers’ defence stood firm to limit the damage.
After the interval, SG Pipers gradually took control, increasing the tempo and forcing the Tigers into deep defensive positions. Their persistence finally paid dividends in the 53rd minute as Preeti Dubey struck a backhand effort that took a slight deflection off the goalkeeper’s stick before finding the net, bringing the Pipers level and setting up a tense finish.
With neither side able to break the deadlock in regulation time, the final was decided in a shootout. SG Pipers captain Navneet Kaur led from the front, converting her attempt alongside Juana Castellaro and Lola Riera. Goalkeeper Bansari Solanki emerged as the hero of the night, producing three decisive saves, including stopping a penalty stroke to seal a 3-2 shootout victory.
The triumph earned SG Pipers the championship prize of INR 1.5 crore, while runners-up Shrachi Bengal Tigers took home INR 1 crore. Ranchi Royals finished third and were awarded INR 50 lakh, along with the Fairplay Award.
The tournament also concluded with individual accolades. SG Pipers’ Bansari Solanki was named Best Goalkeeper, while teammate Sunelita Toppo claimed the Upcoming Player award. Shrachi Bengal Tigers’ Agustina Gorzelany finished as the competition’s leading goal-scorer, and SG Pipers skipper Navneet Kaur was honoured as the Hero Player of the Tournament.
