India’s campaign at the 6th Asian Beach Games 2026 in Sanya, the People’s Republic of China, was a big success. The nation bagged four medals in the beach wrestling event, bringing its overall tally to six medals. On Wednesday, April 29, India’s women wrestlers Priya Malik (70+kg) and Pushpa Yadav (60kg) won gold, while on the other hand, Siddharth (men’s 70kg) and Jaspreet Kaur (women’s 70kg) secured silver and bronze, respectively.

In the women’s 60kg final, Pushpa defeated Asian champion Xie Mengyu of China by 3-0 to clinch gold. Vietnam’s Thi My Hanh Nguyen finished in the third position. On the other hand, Asian medallist Priya secured India’s second gold of the day after winning past Mongolia’s Bolortungalag Zorigt in the women’s 70+kg final by a score of 3-2. China’s Li Wenji won the bronze medal.
India also secured a bronze medal through Jaspreet in the women’s 70kg category. She lost her semi-finals game to Vietnam’s Thi Linh Dang. Despite the loss she then defeat Kazakhstan’s Beibit Seidualy 2-0 in the bronze medal match. China’s Jia Long bagged the gold medal, while Thi Linh Dang finished with the silver.
On the other hand, in the men’s 70kg category, Siddharth finished silver. He was India’s lone wrestling medallist in the men’s event. He defeated Pakistan’s Muhammad Abdullah by 1-0 in the semi-finals but lost his finals game by 0-3 to Iran’s Aliakbar Zaroudi. Kyrgyzstan’s Adis Rakhat Uulu finished finished the bronze.
India’s tally of six medals at the Asian Beach Games 2026 comprises three gold, two silver and a bronze. Besides wrestling, India also had participants competing in the 3×3 basketball and sailing events. But no medals were won in either. Earlier this week, India also won a gold and silver medal in women’s and men’s kabaddi, respectively.
India had a total of 31-member contingent participating in participation at the Asian Beach Games across four different disciplines, including 3×3 basketball, beach kabaddi, sailing and beach wrestling. Indian athletes bagged golds in Kabaddi and Wrestling, while the other two were a miss. The event was organised by the Olympic Council of Asia.
The Asian Beach Games have been organised by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). It is a multi-sport event catering to beach and coastal sports events. The event was first held in Bali, Indonesia, back in 2008, with the idea that sports are not always featured at the Asian Games.
