For India, the Women’s Team quarterfinals match on Day 3 of the tournament was a hell of a ride. The host team suffered a fierce defeat, losing the game by 3-2 to Singapore at the Kalinga Stadium on Monday.

Indian women players Manika Batra and Yashaswini Ghorpade each got a win, but Diya Chitale lost both of her matches. For India, their hopes of getting a medal already ended in disappointment on Day 2 after they lost the men’s team quarter-finals game against Hong Kong China. The women’s team added another failure to it.

Day 3 of the ATTU

The first match of the day saw India’s Manika Batra get stunned by Singapore’s Zhao Yun Tan by 3-1 (sets of 11-8, 11-7, 6-11, 11-8) in the women’s singles event. In the second round, Batra made a strong comeback and defeated Zeng Jian by 3-1 (sets of 11-9, 8-11, 11-8, 12-10).

A positive game, however, resulted from India’s world No. 89, Yashaswini Ghorpade, who secured a commanding victory of 3-0 (sets of 11-7, 11-8, and 11-8) against Singapore’s Ser Lin Qian.

Another loss came from India’s Diya Chitale, who tried to put up a fight before going down against Singapore’s Zeng Jian for 3-2 (sets of 3-11, 12-10, 11-9, 5-11, 11-9). She also lost the decider match of the quarter finals to Yun Tan by 3-0, which got Singapore to advance in the semi-finals with a lead of 3-2.

ATTU Finals

After the quarterfinals round, Japan, Singapore, China, and the Republic of Korea qualified for the semi-finals. Japan and China swept clean their opponent teams by 3-0 scores each and advanced to the finals game of the tournament.

The finals game was, however, a one-sided affair, with the China women’s team taking away the win over Japan by a dominating score of 3-0. China’s women’s and men’s teams were both declared winners of the 28th ITTF-ATTU Asian Table Tennis Team Championships 2025.

Despite losing the chance to defend their bronze medal, both the Indian men’s and women’s table tennis teams will play in the 2026 World Team Championships after qualifying at the 2025 South Asian Regional Championships in Kathmandu held in August.
