The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will conduct its ninth edition this year in Morocco. In the previous editions, below are discussed the eight teams that have won the title in the tournament from the 2008-2024 season.

The inaugural edition of the U-17 Women’s Football World Cup was introduced in New Zealand in 2008, 17 years after the senior World Cup scheduled from October 28 to November 16. The final match was played at the North Harbour Stadium in Auckland between Korea DPR and the USA. Korea defeated the USA to win the first title of the tournament by 2-1.

The second edition, held in Trinidad and Tobago, saw the Asians again dominating the tournament, with the finals game between the Republic of Korea and Japan. The match was first tied at 3-3 at the end of 90 minutes, so the result was then decided on penalties, which Korea won by a score of 5-4.

Korea’s center-forward Yeo Minji took home the Adidas Golden Ball for being the best player of the tournament as well as the Adidas Golden Boot.

The third season of the tournament was held in Azerbaijan in 2012, scheduled from September 22 to October 13. France defeated Korea DPR in the finals game. The match was first tied at 1-1, but France went on to win the penalty shoot-out 7-6.

The fourth edition was played in Costa Rica from March 15 to April 4. The final game was held between Japan and Spain at the Costa Rica National Stadium. Japan took home the win over Spain by 2-0.

Jordan hosted the fifth season of the tournament in 2016 from September 30 to October 21. North Korea and Japan were the two qualified teams for the finals game held at the Amman International Stadium. With no goals scored in the 90 minutes by any of the teams, the result was then decided in the penalty round, which South Korea went on to win by 5-4.

The sixth edition was held in Uruguay from November 13 to December 1. The finals game saw Spain and Mexico battling for the title at Estadio Charrúa Stadium. Spain led the victory, winning the finals game over Mexico by 2-1. Scoring seven goals, Claudia Pina was awarded the Adidas Golden Ball, Cata Coll took the Golden Glove, and Ghana’s Mukarama Abdulai got the Adidas Golden Boot with seven goals and two assists scored in four games.

Spain took home their second title of the tournament, winning the seventh edition in 2022. The team defeated Colombia by 1-0 in the finals game held at Dr. D.Y. Patil Stadium in Mumbai, Pune.

The latest edition of the tournament was held in the Dominican Republic from October 16 to November 3, 2024. The season was won by Korea DPR, who defeated Spain in the penalty round by 4-3 at the finals game, claiming their third title of the tournament held at the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium.
