FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup 2025 kick starts 17th October in Morocco

The 9th edition of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup 2025 is set to kick off from October 17 to November 8, 2025, in Morocco. The tournament is being held on the African continent for the first time. Hosts Morocco will face Brazil in the first stage match of the tournament on Friday at the Olympic Stadium Annex Sports Complex Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat.

On Day 1, in addition to the opening game between Morocco and Brazil, two other matches will also take place. The second match is between Group A teams, Italy and Costa Rica, and the third one is China PR vs. Norway under Group C. Both matches will be held at the Mohammed VI Football Academy.

Format – FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup 2025

A total of 24 qualified teams with 504 U-17 female players will be part of the tournament this time. The number of players per team this time has moved up from 16 to 21.

This will be Brazil’s eighth appearance in the tournament, while Japan and New Zealand have been there since the inaugural season. Team Seleção have made it to the quarter-finals four times in the Women’s World Cup, the last being in 2022.

For hosts Morocco, this season will be their second participation in the tournament after 2022. They will aim to be the first host team to qualify in the knockout rounds. Neither of the previous host teams, including New Zealand, Trinidad and Tobago, Azerbaijan, Costa Rica, Jordan, Uruguay, and the Dominican Republic, have made it through only to the group stage.

With a pool of young and talented female footballers competing for the trophy, some notable players have been retained back to the team for the tournament. The list included Brazil’s Giovanna Waksman, Nigeria’s midfielder Shakirat Moshood, Mexico’s Berenice Ibarra, Spain’s Celia Gomez, and USA goalkeeper Evan O’Steen.

2024 Edition – FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup

The last edition held in the Dominican Republic was scheduled from 16 October to 3 November 2024. USA’s O’Steen won the Adidas Golden Glove as the tournament’s leading goalkeeper. The Nigerian team was awarded the FIFA Fair Play trophy. The season was won by Korea DPR after defeating Spain in the finals game, which was their third title of the tournament.
