Sarah Adlington is the first athlete to win two Commonwealth Games gold medals. She won her first gold medal when she was part of the 2014 squad at Glasgow, when Scotland took 13 medals — six gold, two silver, and five bronze. When judo made an appearance at the games again in 2022, she won her second gold medal at Birmingham.

Adlington said, “Experience teaches you a lot and I’ve definitely got plenty of that. I’m hoping I can put it to good use at the Games. Competing at Glasgow is a bonus and it’s going to be the perfect ending to my career.”

She’s eyeing a historic feat, as she will attempt to win a third medal marking a perfect end to an illustrious career.

Sarah might be turning 40 just a few days after the Games, but the average age of her five female team-mates is 20. Sunny Doig was a part of Scotland’s Achieve Programme for upcoming athletes at Birmingham 2022. While Eva Ewing at 18 is the youngest, and Summer Shaw is the oldest at 22.

Scott Cusack will also be competing in his first Games as he follows in the footsteps of his mother Loretta and father Billy, who both won medals for Scotland at the 1990 Auckland Games. Loretta, who also secured the 1982 World Championship, will serve as the Sport Competition Manager for Judo at the 2026 Games.
