It’s a full-circle moment for Mirabai Chanu as the place where she won her first major international medal— a silver— back at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games just became the place where she completed a gold medal three-peat.
At the ongoing 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, Mirabai just secured her third consecutive gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. Her first gold came in 2018 at the Gold Coast Games, while her second came during the 2022 Birmingham Games.
After missing her opening attempt at 82kg, Mirabai regrouped to clear 82kg on her second attempt and then proceeded to set a new Commonwealth Games record with an 85kg lift on her third attempt. She completely dominated the field as she finished 22kg clear of Nigeria’s Ruth Asuquo Nyong, who finished with a total lift of 168kg.
Clean & Jerk: Mirabai locked in 105kg on her second attempt to set a Games record in the discipline; she opted to skip her third attempt as the gold was already secured.
She lifted a total of 190 kg, and this performance delivered India’s first gold medal of the 2026 CWG.
