The draw for the BWF World Championships will take place on Wednesday in New Delhi. The seedings are subject to change in case any of the participants withdraw before then. The championship will take place from 17th August to 23rd August, 2026, at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi.
While initially the players qualified for the championships based on their world rankings of April 28, 2026, the seedings were decided based on world rankings on July 28, 2026.
P.V. Sindhu, the Japan Open champion, will be seeded ninth, and the 2022 Asian Games gold medallists, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, have been handed the fifth seed for the championships.
India has two entries each in all five categories of the championships and at least one seeded entry in four out of the five categories.
Apart from Sindhu and Satwik-Chirag, Lakshya Sen is seeded 14th in men’s singles, and the mixed doubles pair of Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila are seeded 15th.
Women’s singles world champion Akane Yamaguchi is seeded second, while the third and fourth spots have been given to Wang Zhi Yi and Chen Yufei from China.
South Korea’s women’s singles star An Se-Young and men’s singles world champion Shi Yuqi of China are the top seeds in their respective categories.
Apart from them, the South Korean pair of Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae is expected to be at the top of the men’s doubles chart, with China’s Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning getting the top spot in women’s doubles. While, Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping are seeded number one in mixed doubles.
