RasenBallsport Leipzig is a German women’s football club. The club was founded in 2016. Leipzig already had a girls’ team since 2013, but later in 2016 they officially created a women’s team. Initially, the club was considering a joint team with Leipziger FC 07; instead, they chose to compete with an independent team in the fourth tier.
The squad initially consisted of 17 players from FFV Leipzig, five players from their own youth academy, and one player from the reserve team of FF USV Jena. The team played its first competitive match on August 7, 2016, when it defeated SV Johannstadt 90 7-0 away in the state cup.
In the first match of the 2017/18 season, RB Leipzig suffered their first competitive defeat, losing 0-6 to Magdeburger FFC. In that season, they finished 4th, and head coach Sebastian Popp left the club for professional reasons. He was succeeded by Katja Greulich, formerly the head coach of Bundesliga club FF USV Jena.
The club made their Frauen-Bundesliga debut in 2023; the team had to fight against relegation for a long time, ending the first half of the season in second-to-last place. Eventually, they finished in 8th place thanks to a successful second half of the season.
The club plays their home games at the RB training centre in Cottaweg, and the club’s nicknames are Die Roten Bullen (“The Red Bulls”) and RBL.

The club made their debut in the Frauen-Bundesliga in the year 2023.

RB Leipzig hasn’t won any major honours as of yet since they were founded only in 2016; however, their list includes plenty of rapid promotions.

Their best finishes in the top flight came in their debut season, when they finished 8th in the table out of the 14 teams in the league. They also reached the semifinals of the DFB-Pokal Frauen in the 2022-23 season while they were still in the 2nd division.
