Hamburger Sport-Verein e. V. is a German women’s association football club based in Hamburg, Germany, and is part of the Hamburg SV club.
The women’s section of the club was founded in 1970 and made its Frauen-Bundesliga debut in 2003. The team reached the final of the 2002 German Cup but lost 5–0 to 1. FFC Frankfurt, and it enjoyed its best result in the Bundesliga, a 4th-place finish, in the 2010–11 season.
In May 2012, the club was dissolved, and the reserve team became the first team in the 2012–13 Regionalliga. The women’s team was dissolved due to financial cutbacks across the main club.
In the 2015-16 season the club struggled further and fell into the 5th-tier Verbandsliga Hamburg during the 2015–16 season. In the 2018-19 season, they won the Verbandsliga without losing a single point and earned promotion back to the Regionalliga.
In the 2022-23 season, Hamburger SV won the Regionalliga Nord title and earned a spot in the 2. Frauen-Bundesliga. In May 2025, HSV secured promotion to the Bundesliga after 13 years, finishing among the top three following a 3–0 victory over SC Freiburg II.
The club plays their home games at Volksparkstadion, and the club’s nicknames are Rothosen (“Red Shorts”) and HSV.
