Eintracht Frankfurt Frauen is a German women’s association football club based in Frankfurt. The club was originally founded in 1973 as SG Praunheim, a local sports club that established its women’s football section. When the Bundesliga was created, SG Praunheim was invited to be one of the founding members of the league and made its official top-flight debut in the inaugural 1990-91 season.
During the 1993-94 season, former team captain Monika Staab took over as head coach, alongside manager and investor Siegfried Dietrich. Both of them created the first professional club model for women’s football in Germany. The club reached its first German Championship final in 1996, losing 1–0 to TSV Siegen.
On January 1, 1999, the women’s team separated from Praunheim to form 1. FFC Frankfurt. Under their new name in the 1998-99 season, 1. FFC won both the Frauen-Bundesliga and the DFB-POKAL Frauen. In 2002, 1. FFC Frankfurt won the inaugural edition of the UEFA Women’s Cup (now the UEFA Women’s Champions League), beating Umeå IK in the final. Since then, the club went on to win 7 Frauen-Bundesliga titles and 9 DFB-POKAL cups.
Their four Champions League titles equal them with Barça Femení and trail only behind Lyon. By the late 2010s, a standalone club like 1. FFC Frankfurt was facing financial strain. On July 1st, 2020, 1. FFC Frankfurt formally merged into Eintracht Frankfurt e.V., and all titles, statistics, records, and league rights were officially transferred to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Today, the club plays their home fixtures at Stadion am Brentanobad in Frankfurt (and marquee matches at Deutsche Bank Park), and the club’s nicknames are Die Adler (“The Eagles”), SGE, and Die Adlerträgerinnen (“The Eagle Bearers”).

The club made their original debut in the Frauen-Bundesliga in the 1990-91 season under the name SG Praunheim, while its debut under the Eintracht Frankfurt name came in 2020.
