Just a month ago, during the BWF World Championships held in India, An Se-Young defeated Akane Yamaguchi to become the world champion.
A repeat of the tournament took place as An Se-Young defeated Yamaguchi to secure a place in the finals at the Shenzhen Arena in Shenzhen, Guangdong. Yamaguchi was leading the first game 5-4 at one point; however, Se-Young started fighting back and barely gave her Japanese opponent any time as she closed out the match 21-13, 21-15.
If Se-Young wins this title, she will tie herself with Chen Yufei for the most titles. Yufei has won the title in 2018, 2019, and 2023, while Se-Young has won it in 2024 and 2025.
An Se-Young will face Japan’s Tomoka Miyazaki, who defeated higher-ranked Wang Zhiyi in a tough fight in the second semi-final. Miyazaki won the first game 21-19 and avoided a late comeback attempt by Zhiyi to seal the match with a 23-21 win in the second game.
Se-Young has already enjoyed a remarkable year with six titles, including the BWF World Championships. Her wins comprise: the Malaysia Open and India Open in January, the Badminton Asia Championships in April, the Singapore Open in May, the Indonesia Open in June, and the BWF World Championships in August.
If the South Korean shuttler is to win this title again, it will be her seventh of the year, and with a substantial part of the tournament still to go, Se-Young could continue to secure more titles.
