India’s dominance at the Women’s Asia Cup has translated into a significant reshuffle at the top of the ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings, with N Sree Charani reaching a new Indian benchmark, Deepti Sharma moving into second place among bowlers and Shafali Verma returning to the top six in the batting charts. Charani retained the No. 1 position in the latest rankings released on Tuesday, but it was the scale of her rise that stood out. The left-arm spinner moved beyond the 800-point mark for the first time, reaching a career-best 804 rating points after producing a match-winning spell of 4/20 against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final.
The figure is now the highest rating ever achieved by an Indian player in the ICC Women’s T20I rankings across both batting and bowling. Charani has therefore moved past Mithali Raj’s previous Indian benchmark of 780 rating points, recorded in the batting rankings in 2011. There is another milestone within reach for the 22-year-old. Charani is only two points behind Australia’s Megan Schutt, whose 806 rating points remain the highest ever achieved by a women’s T20I bowler. England’s Sophie Ecclestone is also part of the exclusive 800-point club, having previously reached 802.
Charani’s rise has been built over a remarkable period. She first claimed the No. 1 T20I bowling ranking during the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup after taking 10 wickets in her first three appearances. She subsequently retained the position through the tournament and continued her climb during the Asia Cup. Her performance in the Asia Cup final provided the perfect closing act. India posted 183/5, powered by Shafali Verma’s 68 and Smriti Mandhana’s 59, before their spinners dismantled Sri Lanka’s chase. Charani finished with four wickets as India bowled Sri Lanka out to seal a comprehensive 72-run victory and an eighth Asia Cup title.
Deepti Sharma was equally influential throughout the tournament and has been rewarded with a four-place jump to second in the bowling rankings. The experienced all-rounder finished the Asia Cup as the leading wicket-taker with 14 wickets, including figures of 3/19 in the final. The movement means India now occupy the top two positions in the T20I bowling rankings, with Charani and Deepti separated at the summit. It also reflects the changing character of India’s bowling unit, where experienced campaigners and younger spinners have increasingly shared responsibility.
Nandani Sharma has climbed 10 places to 94th following an impressive tournament, with her economy rate of 4.64 runs per over standing out during India’s unbeaten campaign. Leg-spinner Prema Rawat has made an even bigger leap, rising 50 places to 96th. With the ball providing the foundation, India’s batting also received recognition. Shafali Verma rose from seventh to sixth after finishing the Asia Cup as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 236 runs from five innings. Her scores of 64 in the semi-final and 68 in the final were particularly important as India progressed through the knockout stages.
The rise takes Shafali to 741 rating points, her highest tally since October 2021. She is now only four points behind teammate Smriti Mandhana, who occupies fifth place with 745 points after scoring 213 runs in five innings. Shafali has also climbed five places in the T20I all-rounder rankings to 15th, reaching another career-best mark of 221 rating points. Her improvement in that category reflects the increasingly significant role she has played with both bat and ball for India.
The most significant takeaway from these rankings is not simply that Indian players have moved up, but that India’s Asia Cup success was built across departments. Charani’s record-breaking spell, Deepti’s tournament-leading wicket tally and Shafali’s run-scoring consistency reveal three different routes to match-winning impact. The timing is equally important. India’s eighth Asia Cup title came after an unbeaten campaign and reinforced the team’s depth ahead of the next phase of the international calendar.
For Charani, however, the immediate target is now clear in statistical terms. At 804 points, she stands two behind Schutt’s all-time record of 806. Whether she eventually surpasses that mark will depend on her performances in future T20Is, but the record already establishes her as the highest-rated Indian player in the history of the ICC Women’s T20I rankings.
The Asia Cup may have ended in Dubai, but its impact continues to show up on the rankings table. India’s success has now translated into the top two bowling positions, a top-six batting presence and several upward movements further down the charts.
