The qualification process for the badminton sport for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will begin on May 3, 2027, as announced by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Monday, December 15, 2025. The process will continue until April 30, 2028, and the Ranking of the LA Olympics on May 2 will determine the list of qualifiers for the quadrennial event.

The LA Summer Olympics are scheduled to be held from July 14 to 30, 2028. A statement released from BWF read, “Badminton will maintain a total quota of 172 places (86 men and 86 women) which includes 166 regular quota places, two host country places, and four universality places confirmed by the Tripartite Commission after the qualification period.”
A maximum of eight players per gender from each National Olympic Committee (NOC) can enter the LA28 Olympic Games. In the case of a singles event, only two players from the top-16 of the LA28 rankings can qualify from each NOC, while in a doubles player from each NOC can qualify if ranked among the top-8 of the Olympic rankings.
LA28 Olympics Rules
The rules state that “There are 35 quota places in each singles event, plus one host country place and two universality places. Each singles event must also include at least two athletes from each of the five Continental Confederations, provided they rank within the top 250.
“Each doubles event must include one pair from each of the five Continental Confederations, provided they rank within the top 50. Across all events, no NOC can qualify athletes or pairs in more than two events through the Continental Representation Place system.”
LA28 Olympics tickets
Meanwhile, for fans, the good news is that the registration process for the LA28 Olympics ticket draw will start on January 14, 2026. No money is required for the registration. This is the first time that fans will get the opportunity to attend the LA28 Games and purchase tickets for sale under a time slot.
The tickets, however, go on sale in 2027. The single-event tickets are expected to start from $28. Besides that, there are some exclusive options in tickets catering to hospitality experience and packages which will be available on location and go on sale in 2026.
This registration process is only for fans who want to purchase tickets for the LA Games. For this, they also have to register on LA28’s official ticket page to be eligible to purchase a ticket. The tickets will have access to various sports options, including Olympic surfing, skateboarding, sport climbing, athletics, artistic gymnastics, swimming, and much more.
