India Women are leading the ongoing five-match WT20I series against Sri Lanka by 3-0. On Friday, December 26, 2025, India won their third T20I match by eight wickets. Renuka Singh Thakur was declared player of the match for her terrific bowling spell in the first innings. Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan women’s team is not looking in good shape, and with two more matches left, a comeback is necessary from their side.

In the first innings, Sri Lanka started with the bat, but the Indian bowlers did not let them pass off easily, with a high score of 27 from Imesha Dulani. Hasini Perera, the opening batter, managed to get in 25 runs off 18 balls, while captain Chamari Athapaththu and Harshitha Samarawickrama added three and two runs respectively. In the middle-order line-up was Kavisha Dilhari, who scored 20 runs off 13 balls, whereas Nilakshika Silva went out for four runs.
Meanwhile, Kaushini Nuthyangana remained unbeaten on 19 off 16. Indian bowlers did their best to restrict the Sri Lankan batters to 112/7 in 20 overs. Renuka ended with figures of 4/21, while spinner Deepti Sharma added three wickets.
For India, the run chase was an easy one with a massive contribution from their ace batter Shafali Verma, who scored an unbeaten 79 runs off 42 balls at a strike rate of 188.09. The disappointments came from opener Smriti Mandhana, who got out at 1 run from an lbw from Dilhari. Meanwhile, Jemimah added nine runs and captain Harmanpreet Kaur remained not out on 21 off 18. India Women completed the run chase in 13.2 overs. Only Dilhari managed to secure two wickets for Sri Lanka.
Chamari Athapaththu on Sri Lanka’s disappointing performance
During the post-match interview, Sri Lanka Women’s captain Chamari Athapaththu expressed her disappointment, saying that the team is struggling to step up with the bat.
She said, “I feel we are not playing our best cricket throughout the tournament. As a batting unit we have struggled a lot so we need to improve there. We have played the best batting unit we have been using and we have tried some things with the bowling unit but we haven’t been able to work out. These were the positives but we are still looking to try some players before the World Cup.”
Meanwhile, India Women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur is happy with the team’s performance in the series as they prepare ahead for the T20 World Cup.
Harmanpreet said, “It was a great series for all of us. That’s what we discussed after the World Cup, that we have to raise our standard and be more aggressive in T20s because the WC is coming up so very happy with our overall performances.”
