Litchfield, one of UPW’s brightest performers this season, has been ruled out after sustaining an injury. The Australian left-hander had a solid run in WPL 2026, scoring 243 runs in six matches, and played a key role in UP Warriorz’s batting line-up before her campaign was cut short.

In response, UP Warriorz have turned to experience, signing the English keeper-batter. The seasoned England international has featured in 125 T20 Internationals (T20Is), scoring 1,666 runs, and is widely regarded for her composure, adaptability, and reliable wicket keeping skills. Her arrival adds depth to both the batting and keeping departments as UPW push for a late turnaround.

The move comes at a crucial juncture in the tournament for UP Warriorz. Currently placed at the bottom of the points table, UPW have managed four points from six matches. With the league stage nearing its end, the margin for error is minimal. To keep their playoff hopes alive, the Warriorz must win both of their remaining fixtures, which would take them to eight points.

UP Warriorz face Royal Challengers Bengaluru on January 29, followed by a decisive final league encounter against Delhi Capitals on February 1. With qualification scenarios tightening, Jones’ international experience and calm presence could prove vital in high-pressure situations.

While Litchfield’s absence is a setback, UP Warriorz will hope that Jones’ inclusion injects renewed confidence and stability as they look to finish the league phase on a strong note in WPL 2026.
