South Africa Women once again underlined their depth and discipline as they secured the T20I series against Pakistan Women with a composed six-wicket victory in Benoni, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead with one match to spare.
In a rain-adjusted 14-over contest, Pakistan Women struggled to find momentum after being sent in to bat. Tight new-ball spells from South Africa’s pace unit kept scoring in check, and wickets fell at regular intervals. Only four Pakistan batters reached double figures, with Aliya Riaz top-scoring with a cautious 20 as the visitors closed on 100 for 9.
The bowling honours belonged to Ayabonga Khaka, who delivered a match-defining spell of 3 for 10 from just two overs. She was well supported by Masabata Klaas (2 for 14), while Nonkululeko Mlaba’s economical three overs ensured Pakistan never recovered from early setbacks.
Chasing a modest target of 101, South Africa Women kept things simple. Openers Sune Luus and Tazmin Brits laid the foundation with a brisk stand, before Brits added a further 36 runs alongside captain Laura Wolvaardt.
A brief wobble followed in the middle overs, but Wolvaardt’s composure stood out. She anchored the chase with an unbeaten 40 off 29 deliveries, guiding South Africa past the target with 10 balls remaining.
With this win, South Africa confirmed the series in emphatic fashion, continuing their strong run at home. The final T20I of the series will be played in Benoni on Monday, offering Pakistan a chance to salvage pride before the tour concludes.
