The Indian women’s cricket team was recently fined due to a slow over-rate during the third WODI against Australia in New Delhi. The International Cricket Council (ICC) reported that the team fell two overs short of the required target despite accounting for time allowances.
According to the ICC’s Code of Conduct, teams are penalised 5% of their match fee for each over they fail to bowl in the allotted time. Consequently, the Indian players have been fined a total of 10% of their match fee.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur acknowledged the fine, which meant that a formal hearing was unnecessary. The decision came from the on-field umpires, Lauren Agenbag and Janani Narayanan, along with third umpire Gayathri Venugopalan and fourth umpire Vrinda Rathi.
