As of now, the Australian Women’s team is coming off as a strong contender to win the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. As per stats, the team is currently at the top of the points table with a net run rate of +1.818. The team has won all of their matches, in which one match was left abandoned, which they were supposed to play against Sri Lanka on October 4.

Three out of the four matches won by Australia saw some dominant performances by them. The first match against New Zealand got them the win by 88 runs. In their second match against Pakistan, they won by a massive 107 runs. Their next game against India was a close one, which was won by three wickets. In their last match against Bangladesh, the Australians were in their best form, with their top-order batters taking the win without any loss of wickets.
While the Australian team is in a strong contender ship, another team holding a strong threshold currently is the South Africans. Currently sitting at No. 2 of the points table behind Australia, their back-to-back wins in the last four matches show their dominance in the tournament.
After a downfall in their first match against England, all four matches won by Sri Lanka were during the run chase. The first match won by them was against New Zealand by 6 wickets. The second one was against India, which they won by 3 wickets. The third one was won by 3 wickets against Bangladesh. The last match that they played against Sri Lanka saw them complete the run chase of 106 in 15 overs.
Both the teams have the advantage and are currently seen as the top two contenders for the Women’s World Cup title of 2025.
Meg Lanning picks her favourite team
Ahead of the tournament, the former player revealed that she has a soft corner for Australia and wants to see them lift the trophy; Meg Lanning feels India could prove to be a strong contender.
While speaking to ICC Digital, the former skipper admits that she wants Australia to lift the trophy but says India Women are a competition for them in the tournament.
“I know Australia has dominated a lot of it, but it’s certainly not a foregone conclusion. I’d still love Australia to win obviously, but I think India are the main competitors. I think India are a significant challenge to everybody,” she said.
She added, “Talent-wise, they’re as good as anyone and I think they are really starting to understand how to win, which probably has been something for them to work on and I think they’re doing that really nicely.”
