Over the years, the Indian women’s cricket team has had the chance to achieve World Cup glory in 11 appearances. They were not part of the inaugural season but made their debut in the 1978 season. Australia is the only successful team with seven titles. India has recently won the title in the 2025 edition.

1973 Women’s Cricket World Cup
The inaugural season of the Women’s World Cup was played in England. The host team was the No. 1 team with 20 points in the points table. The team defeated Australia and was declared the first world champions of the tournament.
1978 Women’s Cricket World Cup
In the second edition, India made their debut as hosts of the tournament. The team did not win and ended up at no. 4 as the bottom team in the points table with no wins. Australia was declared the winner and won their first title after defeating England by eight wickets.
1982 Women’s Cricket World Cup
In the third edition, there were four teams in participation: Australia, England, New Zealand, and India. India Women won four of their 11 matches played, but could not make it to the finals. Australia and England faced each other for the second time in the finals. Australia Women ended up winning their second title, defeating England by three wickets.
1988 Women’s Cricket World Cup
A third consecutive win for the Australian Women’s team in the fourth edition of the tournament. On the other hand, England suffered three back-to-back setbacks, ending up as runners-up. Australia won the tournament by eight wickets.
1993 Women’s Cricket World Cup
After three consecutive defeats in the finals, England reclaimed their victory and won their second title of the tournament after defeating New Zealand by 67 runs. India finished the season in the top four of the points table. For the first time, Australia
1997 Women’s Cricket World Cup
For the first time, England failed to qualify in the final game of the tournament. Australia and New Zealand clashed in a battle at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. The Australian team ended up winning their fourth title after defeating New Zealand by five wickets. India was in the No. 2 spot in Group B behind New Zealand in the points table.
2000 Women’s Cricket World Cup
New Zealand won their first title of the tournament after defeating four-time champions Australia by four runs. India Women were much better in their performance, finishing at no. 3 in the points table of the tournament.
2005 Women’s Cricket World Cup
For the first time, India Women qualified for the finals game after finishing at no. 4 with four match wins. They, however, lost against the Australia Women’s team by 98 runs, who won their fifth title. Mithali Raj was the captain during that time.
2009 Women’s Cricket World Cup
England made it to the finals this time since 1993. The team defeated New Zealand by four wickets. India Women made it to the super six at the no. 3 spot in the points table.
2013 Women’s Cricket World Cup
It was the first time that the West Indies qualified for the final game against Australia Women. But the success didn’t last long as they got defeated by a massive margin, with the Australians claiming their victory by 114 runs. This was their sixth win of the tournament.
2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup
This was the second time that India Women qualified for the finals game of the Women’s World Cup, joining England. Led by Mithali, India, however, got defeated by England, losing the finals by nine runs.
2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup
This season saw the reunion of England and Australia after the 1988 edition. Australia ended up getting its seventh title of the World Cup after defeating England by 71 runs. India Women finished the points table at number five.
2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup
This season was a big success for the India Women who earned their maiden title of the tournament. Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, the teamwork by the Indian squad defeated South Africa by 52 runs. South Africa are the first-time qualifiers for the finals in the World Cup.
