After stepping away from professional golf in 2023, Michelle Wie West is preparing for a return to elite competition, confirming she will be part of the newly announced Women’s Team Golf League (WTGL). The innovative league, backed by TMRW Sports in partnership with the LPGA, is scheduled to debut in the winter of 2026 and promises a fresh, team-based approach to the women’s game.

Wie West’s comeback is tied closely to the success of TMRW Sports’ technology-driven concepts, following the visibility and momentum created by the men’s TGL. Her involvement brings instant credibility and global attention to the women’s project, which will be staged at the high-tech SoFi Center and designed to reimagine how golf is consumed by fans.

“As an investor in Los Angeles Golf Club and a fan of TGL, I’m excited for the chance to compete again through WTGL, which will be a powerful platform for women’s golf,” Wie West said in a statement.

“I’m passionate about growing the game, and TGL has proved how new formats through the lens of innovation and creativity can bring golf to a broader audience. The team aspect, matched with the unique environment at SoFi Center, is something I want to be part of, and it’s going to be incredibly fun to challenge myself, this time alongside teammates, to compete against the best in the world.”

The announcement marks a significant moment in Wie West’s decorated career. A five-time LPGA Tour winner, she captured her lone major title at the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open at Pinehurst and was a consistent presence for the United States in the Solheim Cup, representing her country across five editions. Injuries and surgeries ultimately influenced her decision to retire in 2023, making this return all the more notable.

WTGL itself is shaping up to be one of the most star-studded additions to women’s golf in recent years. Supported by Alex Morgan’s Trybe Ventures, the league is the second major initiative from TMRW Sports and aims to blend elite competition with entertainment, innovation and accessibility.

Wie West will join an already formidable eight-player lineup that includes world No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul, England’s Charley Hull, three-time major champion Lydia Ko, rising amateur Lottie Woad, American standout Rose Zhang, and fan favourite Lexi Thompson. Collectively, the group boasts 66 LPGA Tour victories and seven major championships, underlining the competitive weight WTGL intends to carry from its very first season.

With Wie West’s return, WTGL gains not just a proven champion, but a globally recognised figure whose influence extends beyond scorecards.
