Suruchi Singh Sets Junior World Record as India Claims Double Podium at ISSF Finals

On Saturday, December 6, 2025, India secured a double treat on the podium in the shooting event at the ISSF World Cup Finals in Doha.

Suruchi Singh bagged a gold in the women’s 10m air rifle category with a shot of 245.1. Most of her closing shots went above 10.5. Meanwhile, her compatriot Sainyam, the 2023 junior world champion, won the silver with a shot of 243.3. People’s Republic of China’s Yao Qianxun took the bronze medal after finishing with 219.4 points.

With the win, Suruchi has set a new junior world record after surpassing Manu Bhaker’s 244.7 shot, which was scored in the year 2019. Currently at no. 2 in the world rankings, she has been a standout shooter with three gold medals won in the individual discipline of the first three ISSF World Cups held this year.

After a bronze medal finish at the World Championship held in Cairo, Elavenil Valarivan narrowly missed the finals after finishing in ninth place.

Initially, in the qualifying rounds, Suruchi finished in second place with a score of 586, while Bhaker ended in fifth, and Sainyam secured the eighth spot after defeating Olympic silver medallist Camille Jedrzejewski of France.

Republic of Korea’s Oh Ye-jin, also the 2024 Paris Olympic champion, finished in fourth place with 199.1 points. Meanwhile, Bhaker, the double Olympic bronze medallist, finished at No. 5 in the event with 179.2 points.

India’s Samrat Rana won the bronze medal in the men’s 10m air pistol event, finishing with 221.5 points. China’s Kai Hu, with 243.0 points, bagged gold while Germany’s Christian Reitz settled for silver after finishing with a score of 242.0. In the fourth place, India’s Varun Tomar finished with a score of 201.2. Meanwhile, Paris Olympic finalist Arjun Babuta finished in sixth.

In the qualification round, Rana finished second with a score of 584 (23x), which was tied with China’s Kai, while Tomar, on the other hand, posted a score of 578 (25x).

World champion, Rana’s bronze medal victory at the World Cup Finals of ISSF 2025 is a major victory that will be added to his resume, and that is a testament to his brilliant form and consistency performed in multiple top-level events. On the other hand, the event was a successful one for Indian shooting, with three podium finishes and some competitive scores achieved by the players.

The 2025 ISSF event in Doha will continue with events until December 8, 2025.
