The team lost their final match to Sweden’s duo of Rasmus and Isabella Wranå by 6-5 to end up with a silver medal. In addition to that, Thiesse became the first American woman to win an Olympic medal in curling. Meanwhile, for the U.S. curling team, this is the third Olympic medal for the U.S., joining the list of men’s bronze medal wins in 2006 and Team Shuster’s gold victory in 2018.

The American duo of Thiesse and Dropkin started their campaign at the Winter Games 2026 with a third-place finish in the round-robin standings with a 6-3 record. Later in the semi-finals, they edged past Italy, defeating them by a score of 9-8 and securing themselves a berth in the finals and a medal. In the final, they faced Sweden, who secured their final spot after defeating Britain in the other semi-final.

In the final against Sweden, the USA lost several opportunities in the match that ended in their downfall. In the seventh end, Thiesse missed the house in her first throw, but the team gained a two-point end after that. However, they were still down at 4-3 against Sweden, who took the hammer in the eighth end but a clutch throw by Dropkin turned over the game, and the USA got the lead at 5-4 through a conversion from Thiesse.

Meanwhile, a fourth throw by Dropkin in the eighth end went all the way through the house and failed to knock off any of the Swedish guards. In addition to that, Thiesse’s fifth and final stone also failed to clear out the house enough, that got Sweden’s Isabella secure the win through a routine takeout.

Thiesse and Dropkin on winning USA’s first-ever curling medal

During the post-match interview, both Thiesse and Dropkin shared their respective experiences of their finals performance and the honour they brought to the country.

Thiesse said, “It’s been a long time coming. I’m really proud and honored to be standing up there and to use this to move women’s curling in the U.S. forward and do what we can as players and as mentors to hopefully see more women from the United States up on that podium some day.”

“Obviously would have loved to come home with a gold medal, but Sweden earned that. I’m so darn proud of us,” Dropkin said.
