At just 11 years old, Atiqa Mir has climbed to the top among female racers in the latest FIA International Karting Ranking, marking a significant milestone not only in her career but also for Indian motorsport.
Competing in the highly competitive International OK-NJ category, which features drivers aged between 12 and 14, Atiqa has secured an impressive seventh position overall. This achievement makes her the highest-ranked female driver in her class, according to rankings released by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile.
Leading the standings is Switzerland’s Zoltan Coigny, but Atiqa’s rise has drawn global attention given her age and rapid development. Her journey to this point has been anything but ordinary. At the beginning of 2026, Atiqa was fast-tracked from the mini category, which includes drivers aged 8 to 12, into the more demanding junior class. The decision reflected the immense confidence that her team and backers have in her potential. That belief has already begun to pay off.
One of the defining moments of her season came at the Champions of the Future Academy series in Valencia. Competing against older and more experienced drivers, Atiqa delivered a standout performance to secure a podium finish in the opening round. The result was historic, further establishing her as one of the most promising young talents in international karting.
Adding to her growing list of achievements, Atiqa also impressed in the WSK Super Master Series, one of the most competitive karting championships in the world. In the final round at Franciacorta, she finished eighth out of a grid of 53 drivers, a result that underlined her ability to compete at the highest level against a large and talented field.
Her rapid rise is also supported by her association with the Formula 1 Academy, making her the first Indian driver to receive backing from the initiative. The program, designed to nurture and promote female talent in motorsport, has identified Atiqa as a key prospect for the future.
Behind her success is a strong foundation built at home. Her father, Asif Mir, was India’s first national karting champion and has played a pivotal role in shaping her career. While proud of her achievements, he remains focused on the long-term goal of guiding her towards the pinnacle of motorsport.

He emphasized that while reaching the top ranking among female drivers is a proud moment, the journey is far from complete. Following a brief two-week break, Atiqa has returned to the track to continue her development. She is currently testing in Lonato, fine-tuning her performance ahead of the upcoming WSK Euro Series Round 2, which will also be held at the same circuit. These sessions are crucial as she adapts to new challenges and continues to gain experience in a higher category.
