On Wednesday, January 4, 2026, France’s Leolia Jeanjean and Darja Semenistaja of Latvia won their respective matches to secure their spot in the quarterfinals held at the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association centre court. Both Jeanjean and Semenistaja will next face other quarterfinalists, Leolia Jeanjean of Thailand and Austria’s Lilli Tagger, on Friday, February 6.

Second-seeded Semenistaja defeated Japan’s Mai Hontama by sets of 6-4, 7-6 (3). The Latvian showcased a composed performance over the Japanese opponent. Hontama was aggressive at the start that got the former champion (who won in the 2024 edition) a bit behind and performed some unforced errors. But Semesnistaja responded well to the Japanese player through her backhand strokes and strong first serves that got her the lead in the first set by 6-4.
Meanwhile, the second set saw Semenistaja in consistent form, who continued her dominance through serves and sharp gameplay. But on the other hand, Hontama regained her form and went on to take a 3-1 lead. But the Latvian was relentless on her part, who made a strong comeback and went on to score three consecutive games to take the lead by 4-3. The Japanese once again struck back to take the lead back 5-4, winning two games.
Fighting back, Semenistaja went on to level the score at 5-5, followed by taking the lead for 6-5, but the Japanese forced the match into a tie-breaker. Meanwhile, in the tie-break, Semenistaja kept her control and went heavy on first serve, sealing the score by 7-3. With the win, she has booked her place in the quarterfinals.
In the other women’s singles game, third seed Jeanjean defeated Japan’s Miho Kuramochi by sets of 6-3, 6-3.
