Serena Williams will play the Queen’s Club doubles in London next week, partnering with Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko. Most recently, she also confirmed her participation for the Berlin Doubles (June 15-21).

Her announcement has left the tennis world wondering whether she’ll return to singles as well, with Wimbledon just around the corner. In response, Serena said, “For singles, I can’t say yeah and I can’t say no. Right now, no. I feel like I probably need to train a little bit more if I want to play singles.”

“We will see if I get there and if not it is not my journey right now.”

Her main reason for a return is wanting her daughters to watch her play. When asked about her return, she said, “For me right now, there are so many elements, you know. It’s really about the kids seeing me play. Olympia is a little bit older, Adira is very young. It’s components like that.

“It’s also, an athlete is the best thing you can be, in the highest place and having an opportunity to still be able to possibly do that one last time is kind of cool and exciting. And so there is a little bit of that too.”

For the champion, it’s not just about missing the lifestyle and the sport she dedicated her life to, it’s also about her daughters watching their mum play.

No one knows if she’ll return to her dominant self, but for her it’s about the roads she chooses to take, rather than a piece of trophy.

“I don’t need to win. I’ve won more than most people have their entire lives. So for me that is not important. It is important I keep reminding myself of that.”

Whether or not she will play singles again, or get back to her winning self, it’s a treat for tennis fans to watch a legend grace the courts again.
