Serena Williams last played a singles match at the US Open 2022, where she lost to Ajla Tomljanovic. That was four years ago, and since then she hasn’t played a singles match, but she will soon be returning to that stage.

On Sunday, the tournament announced that Williams has received a wildcard for the singles tournament and will be participating in it.
Williams made her comeback to professional tennis last month during the Queen’s Club Championship. Williams played the doubles tournament with Victoria Mboko. They won their opening match against Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Erin Routliffe 7-6 (2), 6-2, unfortunately, Mboko had to withdraw from the tour due to an injury she sustained.
The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion then continued her journey at the Berlin Open with Karolina Muchova. However, they lost in the first round to Routliffe and Giuliana Olmos 6-4, 6-4. The result of the match came after it was already announced that she and her sister, Venus, would play the Wimbledon Ladies’ Doubles with a wildcard.
During the Berlin Open, Williams was asked about the possibility of her playing singles at Wimbledon, “Oh my gosh, there’s some left? Would you be interested if I took it? You think I’m ready for singles? I need to go to work.”
Wimbledon begins on 29 June and runs until 12 July 2026. It promises to be an exciting event, especially with a legend of the game making a comeback; it could be a perfect addition to an already illustrious career.
