On Friday, December 26, 2025, Indian women shuttlers Surya Charishma Tamiri and Shruti Mundada stunned top seeds Unnati Hooda and Anupama Upadhyaya to qualify in the semifinals of the Senior National Badminton Championship held in Vijayawada.

Unnati, India’s ace shuttler, fell against Charishma by 21-12, 21-15 in a 36-minute battle, while Shruti defeated second seed and former national champion Anupama Upadhyaya by sets of 22-20, 21-12 in 39 minutes.
Charishma will next face Rakshita Sree in the semi-final match, who defeated world junior championships silver medallist Tanvi Sharma by sets of 16-21, 21-14, 21-18.
Earlier, Unnati and Anupama Upadhyaya sealed their quarterfinal spot with a dominant victory. Unnati won against M Meghana Reddy by 19-21, 21-14, 21-12, while Anupama defeated Anvi Rathore by a comfortable win of 21-13, 21-5.
Meanwhile, top-seeded women’s doubles pair of Rutuparna and Swetaparna Panda lost their pre-quarterfinals match against Riduvarshini Ramasamy and Sania Sikkandar by 21-16, 21-19.
In the men’s singles, top seed Kiran George overcame a challenging 41 minutes battle against 11th seed Rounak Chauhan to claim the victory by 21-18, 21-18. He will next face 2024 Odisha Open champion Rithvik Sanjeevi S, who won his quarterfinals match against K Sathish Kumar by 21-13, 22-20.
The second semifinals of the tournament will see the second seed, M Tharun, take on the unseeded Bharat Raghav. In the quarter finals, Tharun defeated Manraj Singh 21-13, 22-20, while Bharat got the better of Ginpaul Sonna 21-17, 21-13.
Earlier during the pre-quarterfinal held on Thursday, India’s Tanvi Sharma, Tanvi Patri, and Rounak Chauhan had quite a strong run in the ongoing Senior National Badminton Championships. They registered convincing wins in their respective matches to reach the quarterfinals.
Starting with the women’s singles, Tanvi, the silver medalist in the World junior championship, defeated 10th seed Devika Sihag by 21-11, 10-21, 21-10. Patri, on the other hand, edged past Parul Choudhary by 21-14, 21-17.
Patri’s next match is scheduled against Aakarshi Kashyap, who defeated third seed Anmol Kharb by 21-18, 21-18.
A BBA student of Chitkara University, Charishma, has already made her mark in both the national and international badminton tournaments, with three gold medals earned. Her first gold was won at the Yonex Sunrise All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament, held in Bhubaneswar.
She continued her impressive run with her gold second in the senior women’s category at the Andhra Pradesh Senior State Men & Women Badminton Championship, held in Vizianagaram. Her third gold medal came at the 2024 Yonex Sunrise India Junior International Grand Prix held in Pune.
